My parents grew up in conservative households where free thinking didn’t seem to be much of a topic at all. Niether of my parents really exhibit the artistic abilities that I showed, so that may also play a part in their attitude. They’ve always supported me in terms of bettering my drawing/painting skills, but that’s kind of where the support ceases.

I wanted to make a cool lobster headpiece that resembled the one Lady Gaga wore once so I could wear it to her concert, and that’s exactly what I did. I wanted to make a commentary via sculpture about the mass-production of women’s fashion and how that attributes to the slow death women put themselves through in order to achieve social praise, so I got a mannequin head and stuck a high heel into it’s head. I do things that aren’t exactly normal, and don’t conform to the ideals my parents have about art, but because they’re so different, I’m scorned for the things I do. I appreciate the fact that my parents have been physically supporting me for 17 years, but would appreciate a bit of support for my artistic endeavors. I don’t think that’s too much to ask but my parents are far to close-minded too deal with that kind of stuff so whatever.

I’m ready for whatever comes next. I paved this road all by myself and whether or not I want to, walking down it is my only option. In retrospect, things probably aren’t as bad as I think they are. These feelings will subside like they always do and eventually I’ll see where this all leads me.
